Aurora

Northern lights (Aurora Borealis) have long inspired awe and terror in those privileged to experience their dancing arcs, patches, waves, coronas, drapery, rays, veils and bands. They occur as the result of electrically charged particles from the sun (the solar wind) interacting with air molecules in the Earth’s upper atmosphere, the ionosphere. Active auroras are often related to solar flares and tied to the sunspot cycle. The Skyart® collection of northern lights photographs is taken mainly in Northern Canada, with some from southern regions and the northern U.S.A.
