- Condensation: smoke plume and heat from burning stubble climb into a clear sky. The air cools as it rises until the water vapor in it begins to condense. At this point, the invisible water vapor becomes visible in a whitish cloud as tiny water droplets refract sunlight. The cloud gets whiter (denser) with time and its width shows how air also expands as it rises.
