- Point source convection: a “smoking” mountain puffs clouds up above it (orographic lift). As each bubble reaches a stable level, it flattens into a tiny anvil flange that freezes. The water parts then evaporate (having now drifted away from the updraft source) but the frozen parts sublimate more slowly and remain visible downwind to the right.
