- Bright and faded clouds show scattering of light (reflection of sunlight)
- W888011S
- Scattering of light. When convective clouds first form, there are many tiny droplets of water providing a dense reflective surface for sunlight. As a cloud ages, droplets grow larger but sparser. In this cloud, newer parts at right are bright while the previous, aging phase at left is faded from a combination of evaporation, larger drops, and some freezing.
